ABOUT IT-ROCS

IT-ROCS is led by two CCNY faculty – Dr. Ana Carnaval of the Biology Department, and Dr. Yael Wyner of the School of Education. IT-ROCS is administered through The CCNY Initiative to Promote Academic Success in STEM (CiPASS) and CiPASS Associate Director Christine Banks Calderon is the Program Manager for this REU.

CCNY, a public, 4-year HSI/MSI, is the STEM flagship campus of the City University of NY  (CUNY) system – the nation’s largest urban university system, serving over 278,000 students. Located in the predominantly Hispanic and African American neighborhood of West Harlem,

CCNY serves more than 13,000 undergraduates per year, with more than 10,000 coming from NYC itself. CCNY provides an affordable entry point into higher education for low-income and first-generation students and has an extremely diverse student body, reflective of the diversity of NYC, as 38% of undergraduates identify as Hispanic/Latino, 14% as Black or African American, 26% as Asian/Asian American, and 66% of the students are Pell grant recipients.
